Smoking

Congratulations

Now that you’ve made the decision to become a non-smoker, you have bestowed on your body the gift of better health. In just a few days, your body will start to heal itself. You will be stronger, both physically and mentally. After about 72 hours as a non-smoker, your sense of smell and your sense of taste will start to improve. Your eyes will become brighter. You will start to look healthier. You’ll have more energy and much more pride in yourself, plus, as smoking becomes just a dirty, dangerous, sinking habit that you used to have, you’ll find that you have much more money to spend, or save, as you wish.

You have become a non smoker because:

  • Your health will improve

  • You'll perform better at physical activities

  • Your hair, clothes and skin will smell fresher

  • You'll look better - smoking is bad for your skin, and stains your teeth and fingers

  • Your house will be cleaner

  • You'll have more money to spend

  • You can take pride in the fact that you've kicked the habit

To convince you to make the right decision, take a look at what
ACTION ON SMOKING AND HEALTH (ASH)
has to say

It’s time to tell the truth:

That:

  1.  ... smoking is a cause of lung cancer and other fatal diseases

  2.  ... over 100,000 people die prematurely in the UK as a result of smoking

  3.  ... nicotine is a powerfully addictive drug

  4.  ... teenagers are inherently important to the tobacco market and have been targeted

  5.  ... in spite of a draconian ban on cigarette advertising, the tobacco and cigarette industries continue to grow and prosper, thanks to ingenious and powerful alternative marketing strategies. This means that our children are still getting the message - that smoking is cool - in other more subtle ways

  6.  ... advertising increases total tobacco consumption and hence causes harm

  7.  ... low tar cigarettes offer false reassurance and no significant health benefit

  8.  ... passive smoking is one of several important influences on youth smoking

  9.  ... the industry has the normal duty of any manufacturer to make their products as safe as possible.
